The Full Story: A Renaissance Man

Jarrod L. Grant was a 1993 South Eugene High School graduate and was a multisport athlete who also excelled in the music arts. He passed away tragically the summer after graduation. Jarrod's family has endowed a college scholarship for similar graduating student(s) of South Eugene High School, the Jarrod L. Grant Memorial Scholarship.

Jarrod demonstrated the ability to cross boundaries of class, race, interests, and cliques. Using good humor and good nature, Jarrod dedicated his free spirit to activities he loved: laughing, playing sports, and playing music. Jarrod was a wide receiver for the South Eugene High School football team earning a walk-on spot with Portland State University's football team. Jarrod also excelled at baseball; often a good game included a dirty uniform. Jarrod's passion for life also manifested itself in music. Jarrod participated in music ensembles at South, local church choir, and was the drummer in a garage rock band performing at local events/halls and of course in front of friends. Jarrod's football coach called Jarrod a "renaissance man".

Selected recipient(s) will demonstrate active participation in athletics, preferably football or baseball, and in the fine arts, preferably music arts. Recipient(s) will also be admitted into a college or university and will demonstrate leadership through the ability to find common ground and bring fellow students together. Recipients will be selected by the South Eugene High School teacher/staff-committee and administered by Friends of South.

The family invites friends, classmates, and others who want to support students like Jarrod to contribute to the Jarrod L. Grant Memorial Scholarship endowment.
