CELEBRATE SOUTH WITH A DONATION OF SUPPORT

You know it’s been a strange and stressful year.  You know it’s been especially hard on families trying to keep their children learning from home while they juggle their essential work or work from home schedules.

You have also seen the value of education in action, and the cost of under-education in action this year.

Friends of South believes supporting education has never been more important.  We are excited about the opportunities we have to support students and faculty.  At the same time we miss the annual Celebrate South – Axe Hall of Fame event we have conducted each fall for almost a decade.  We have identified a spectacular set of deserving honorees for the postponed-to-2021 gala.  We know they will inspire the students and inspire us too.  We have promised the honorees, and we promise you, that we’ll soon set a date for the fall of 2021.

Meanwhile, we are impressed with the energy and resiliency of the students who are participating in Debate, the only extra-curricular program currently operating.  The 15 debaters have been participating in debates, virtually, around the country.  The virtual nature of the debates has allowed the Debate team to increase their reach, no longer only driving to Portland or Seattle, but competing with top high schools around the country. Go here to learn more about how you can help Debate now.

Now, we are preparing for a return to normalcy, and we ask for your help.

Last fall we raised more than $20,000 to support the 5 A’s: Academics, Athletics, Arts, Activities and At-Risk students who need extra material support.  We were able to award grants to Band, Football, the Library, books for a new Ethnic Studies Class, supply food, personal care items and spirit-wear to students without parents or the means to purchase their own, and to support reconditioning the aerobics equipment that is available for all students and faculty.

You can help us raise $20,000 again this year by making a contribution.  You may designate your contribution to a team or club of your choice or let the Friends of South Board determine the area of greatest need among the 5 A’s.  Or you may contact one of us directly for more information.

Please help us help students and support teachers at South.  Go Axe!
